Get Luxe Hair and Makeup Looks for LessWe dared ourselves to recreate celebrity hairstyles and makeup looks that normally cost hundreds of dollars using only drugstore beauty products. Did we succeed? |
Jessica Alba's Makeup Who tried it: Sharon Yi, Intern
Approximate primping time: 4 minutes total
What she used:
L'Oreal Paris Extra Volume Hydra Collagen Plumping Mascara, $5
Mark Juice Gems Lip Gloss, $6.50
Milani Tantastic Face and Body Baked Bronzer, $8
Maybelline EyeStudio in Copper Chic, $6.49
Sonia Kashuk False Lashes, $9.99
Her thoughts: I chose this look because it looked simple with not a lot of crazy colors so I figured thered be no room to mess up. Turns out I was right.
First I bronzed my skin with the bronzer all over until I got a natural glow. Then I started using the lightest color of the Maybelline eye shadow palette for the inner rims of my eyes. I used the darkest color on my base and softened the edges with my finger, then I used the same color to line the bottom of my eye. I curled my lashes and put on mascara but because I have such thin eyelashes, I added some fake lashes to give some extra oomph. Last, just a quick swipe of sheer lip gloss and I was good to go.

None of them turned out better or close to the celebrity look.

Unfortunately, it looks like this project was too hard to execute. Nothing looks like the "celebrity" photos. This looks more like an experiment in 'interpretation' and not 'replication'. I do appreciate that staff took the time to attempt the looks.

Using the cosmetics the celebs use will NOT make us look like them. Good color matching in most of the comparison photos.

Some people copied the celebrity look right, but a few did not get it right.

This was fun! Even if it wasn't using drugstore products, it was nice to see celebrity hair and makeup translated into real life looks!
