Worst Hairstyles for Women Over 40

Get the wrong cut or color and you could look 10 years older -- or like a wannabe tween

Hair Don't: Rapunzel-Esque Length Kastin is quick to point out that there are exceptions to every rule, and some women in their 40s can look fantastic with long hair, like Demi Moore here. But for most mature women, long hair "does tend to drag one down and generally make one look older," Kastin says.

The key is to pay attention to your face shape and hair texture. If your hair is super healthy and your face is on the round side, you can give long hair a whirl. But if your face is long or your hair is either really thick or really fine, it's best to try one of the styles on the next slide.

When I was a little girl I wore my hair in a pony tail every single day - it was so long it would give me headaches. When I'd finally had enough of those (and some were just awful!) I decided to get it cut to something that was more fashionable AND shorter, LOTS shorter. Even though it ended up being shoulder lenght I just loved it. But my hair was also very very thick! Mom finally took me to her hairstylist who layered my hair and I just loved it! Yes, it was a bit unnerving taking that LARGE jump, but once I did I said the same thing that another girl wrote, "I'll NEVER let my hair grow long again!!" although I did later down the road. It took some getting used to, but using about 1/2 the product/s from before it was cut, and cutting the drying time from about 45 mins. down to just 15 mins. or so - I LOVED IT!! It was quite a decision for a 4th grader LOL The tips in this article were great! Thanks for sharing them ;)
