The DIY: Apple Cider Vinegar as a TonerWhy you should skip it: While apple cider vinegar isn't going to melt your face off "Raiders of the Lost Ark" style, it will upset the pH level of your skin, says Graf. And although Peredo concedes that apple cider vinegar does inhibit yeast and bacteria, it can be extremely drying, making it a less-than-ideal option for attaining the skin of your dreams.
What you should do instead: "Witch hazel has natural astringent and anti-bacterial properties, making it ideal to treat acne or oily-prone skin," says Peredo. It's a much gentler -- and more effective -- natural alternative to ACV.
If you worship at the altar of ACV (or that's all you have in your cabinet), be sure to dilute it with two parts water before applying to your face, says Goldfaden.
