"[Wine] connoisseurs appreciate the developing taste of a fine wine, from the first sip to the end of the glass, the aroma developing as the wine breathes," says luxury perfumer Clive Christian.
Like wine, perfume has an intricate, evolving profile, he points out -- so the way we experience fine fragrance is similar to the way we experience wine.
"The concentration and complexity of rare and carefully selected ingredients interact with the warmth of your skin, developing as the day progresses, [their] character and beauty developing hour by hour," Christian says. "Perfume is the original drink of the senses."
So what does your favorite wine say about the type of perfume you'll love? We asked Marissa Copeland, sommelier at David Burke Kitchen in NYC, how to pick a new perfume based on your No. 1 vino. Here's what she told us.
