It's time to de-mineralize Anyone considering going lighter will benefit from a treatment that helps remove mineral deposits, one of the great enemies of hair color, particularly with hair that's already been bleached. Bodt's favorite treatment is the Malibu C Hard Water Wellness Hair Remedy, $13.55 for 3, a treatment created for the hard water from its namesake area. "When hair is open and porous from already being bleached, it's already susceptible to picking up anything to which it's exposed: pollution, mineral deposits, dryness in the air. This treatment pulls all the mineral deposits and impurities out of the hair so there are no surprises once you start coloring, as those minerals can cause hair color to get really dark, green or grainy." For post-color, Bodt suggests investing in a shower filter like the T3 Source Showerhead, $150, which has a built-in filter to remove hard water and mineral deposits.
