Look of the Day: Kelsea Ballerini's Pretty Plaits If there's anyone's beauty look we're calling dibs on, it's Kelsea Ballerini's modern getup she sported last night at the 52nd Academy of Country Music Awards. The "Peter Pan" singer teamed up with celebrity hairstylist Bridget Brager who created a textured, braided updo, in order to balance the etherealness of her billowing floral dress.
To create Ballerini's chic plaits, Brager starting by applying the Paul Mitchell Extra Body Sculpting Foam, $10.50, to Ballerini's damp hair from the roots to the ends, and rough dried her hair to enhance the volume and texture as much as possible. To give hair some more definition, Brager used the Paul Mitchell Express Gold Curl Marcel 1" Barrel, $67.99, on dry hair. Once her hair contained a bit more bend and texture from the curls, Brager applied Paul Mitchell Neon Sugar Cream, $11.99, from roots to her ends, in order to keep curls intact and hair shiny before beginning the braid.
To create her stunning braids, Brager started by parting Ballerini's hair down the middle and created two Dutch braids on each side of her head -- stopping the Dutch braid right at the ear. Then using the remaining hair at the back of the head, Brager crafted strands into a fishtail braid. Once the braids were complete, Brager folded the fishtail braid to the back of the head, created a bun and wrapped the Dutch braids around the bun to finish the look (securing with bobby pins of course). To lock in the look, Brager spritzed on the Paul Mitchell Neon Sugar Confection, $10.99, and sent Ballerini off to slay her "Yeah, Boy" performance later that evening.
