Then again, why shouldn't it be? It's got everything: A rat king, waltzing snowflakes and flowers, numerous references to various countries and their cuisines (that are not quite politically correct by modern standards), not to mention that enigmatic, eyepatch-wearing Herr Drosselmeyer.
