Not being able to tell if your nose is running due to lingering numbness, as far as five weeks out, is another side effect. And if you get packing (gauze or cotton packs put in your nostrils to control bleeding or support the septum post-op), be forewarned: "It's very, very uncomfortable. All I wanted to do the first night was sleep, but I couldn't because of the amount of discomfort I was in. I had to take small sips of liquid to avoid choking when swallowing pills. It was scary to start coughing just from drinking water."
