Celebrity Hairstyles: The Best Blondes, Brunettes, Redheads and Raven-Haired Women in Hollywood

I'm kind of obsessed with hair color and I really think it makes or breaks your look. My natural color is a dirty blonde, which is a perfect place to spring from and land into different color palettes -- and I have. Since I was thirteen, I have taken the liberty of experimenting with every hue from platinum to auburn to dark brown to black to blue and back again. I've definitely had some not-so-pretty dye jobs, but as of late, I've settled on and love my natural-looking light blonde highlights, and I think the only other color I'll ever try again is a warm brown.
Anyhoo, celebrity hair colorists David John and Tracey Cunningham have an opinion or two about hair color as well and here they weigh in on the celebrity hairstyles and the celebrities with the best hair color. They tell us who they think are the best blondes, brunettes, redheads and raven-haired ladies in Tinsletown, why it works on them and if their hair color would work on you. Do you agree with them?
Celebrity hairstyles: the best platinum/solid blonde hair
Michelle Williams
Gwen Stefani
Gwyneth Paltrow
Why it works: "Platinum is a very strong, glam color and not everyone can pull it off," says John. He thinks it works for these women because of their skin tone and/or fashion sense.
Celebrity hairstyles: the best light blonde highlights
Cameron Diaz
Reese Witherspoon
Ali Larter
Why it works: "The beauty of their hair is that even though they are light blonde, their hair still looks healthy and shiny. Light blonde hair can tend to look over processed and has a damaged, dull, ashy tone to it if it isn't lightened carefully. On the other end, some hair, if too warm or gold, can clash with skin tones and look brassy," says John.
Celebrity hairstyles: the best medium blonde highlights
Drew Barrymore
Sheryl Crow
Jennifer Aniston
Why it works: "Their natural color is a little darker and they don't try to stray too far away from that," says John. This blonde color works well for them because it pulls out the pink tones in their skin and makes it radiant and "their hair is a little longer, allowing the highlights to look natural and beautiful," says Cunningham.
Celebrity hairstyles: the best light to medium brown highlights
Kate Beckinsale
Lily Aldridge
Sandra Bullock
Why it works: "The highlights add dimension, warmth and softness to their dark hair," says John. This hair color draws out their eyes, adds Cunningham, "the rich browns in the highlights match incredibly with the shine and sparkle of their brown eyes."
Celebrity hairstyles: the best red hair
Emma Stone
Amy Adams
Julianne Moore
Why it works: "It is dramatic and fiery which matches their strong personalities," says John. Plus, it looks "real," says Cunningham (regardless if it is or not). For example, Stone is a natural blonde, Adams is a strawberry blonde who goes for a richer red and Moore is the only real redhead of the bunch.
Celebrity hairstyles: the best brown hair
Halle Berry
Katie Holmes
Marisa Tomei
Why it works: It is a solid strong color that works with their style, says John. The darker brown base is especially stunning because the rich brown plays off their skin tone so well, says Cunningham. "It's important not to get too close to [your] skin color, but rather find a complement that pulls the undertones of the pigment to the surface to create a nice blend," she says.
Celebrity hairstyles: the best raven hair
Salma Hayek
Vanessa Hudgens
Demi Moore
Why it works: "It is a solid and strong hair color with a bit of a timelessness," says John.

I don't know, the color and cut of Katie Holmes' hair is a little mousy in my opinion. What about Eva Longoria or Liv Tyler?
