  • I for one love a good makeover. I'm not just talking makeup or hair makeovers either (though they are my faves, sorry can't lie), but makeovers that involve the soul -- changing oneself physically or mentally in order to feel better or raise one's self confidence -- you just can't beat that. Makeovers often get flack for being superficial, but the truth is, that when used effectively and in the right mindset, changing up your makeup or hairstyle can actually be liberating. How? You are choosing to take time for yourself, to enhance your inner beauty and make yourself shine a little brighter -- literally and metaphorically.

  • The VH1 2010 Do Something! Awards on Monday night exceeded my expectations. Unlike most award shows that acknowledge artists for their singing, dancing, acting and whatnot -- this one honored celebs and real people alike from Snoop Dogg to Joe Shmoe from Ohio for making a difference (see the 23 charities we love).

  • I have found that the best lighting for tweezing brows happens to be in the car -- no joke. Without fail each morning as I sit in Los Angeles traffic, I flip open my visor mirror and -- bam -- I see each and every stray hair that I somehow missed, or more like, never saw. You really need quality light to pluck brows -- ask any pro.

  • Which is why on this third day of reporting live from Cosmoprof North America, my "best in show" beauty product pick of the day are the La-Tweez Pro Illuminating Tweezers, $24. These are the Porsche of tweezers. Not only do they have a super sharp, precise, stainless steel design (with handy triangle cutouts along the sides for improved grip), but these babies light up. With one touch of the very snazzy Swarovski crystal button, on pops a very bright LED light that helps you see each and every hair -- even my fine blonde ones. And the light has auto shut-off to boot.

  • Coffee -- it's one of life's little pleasures and one of those legal substances that we all like to use … and often abuse. We love its ability to put a pep in our step each morning and how the aroma alone has the power to drag us out of a sleepy fog, comfort us -- and yes, signify to us that energy is on its way.

  • Today we're reporting live from Cosmoprof North America, a trade show for beauty manufacturers and distributors, and one that would make any beauty junkie squeal with delight -- we're talking miles of flat irons, nail polish and anti-aging skin care lotions and potions.

  • Remember in high school and college when there was a "Suggested Summer Reading" list that contained totally non-tedious, uproariously funny and short classics like "The Canterbury Tales" and "The Brothers Karamazov" (please, note sarcasm)? Then, remember when you graduated from the "I-can't-possibly-get-through-this-book-alive" summer reading to numbing your brain with smut paperback crime novels and soppy romance extravaganzas? Yeah, well guess what -- it's time to forget all your summer book "baggage" and move on to reading that's educational AND fun: summer health and beauty reading, of course!

  • Wanna, um, jazz up your next bikini wax? Well, the masterminds of Vajazzle (Jennifer Love Hewitt's new fave accessory BTW) created Bikini Ink, a temporary tattoo for ... down there. NYC's Completely Bare Spa will apply an airbrush tattoo post-wax (check out Hair Removal 101 before your next wax) with anything from your significant other's name -- it only lasts five days, in case you're feeling iffy about the relationship -- to a good ol' butterfly.

  • July 14th is Bastille Day, or La Fête Nationale for natives, and this year marks the 130th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille -- you know, the little incident that started the French Revolution and forever changed the world.

  • For me, there's nothing better than having someone wash my hair, massage my scalp and then blow dry and style my hair. Every time I get my hair cut and/or colored, I'm always in awe of a salon blow out (here's how to blow dry your own hair like a pro). But now with the rise of blow out bars (salons that don't cut or color -- just blow) we can all get our salon blow outs on anytime we want.

  • Fashion Weeks come and Fashion Weeks go … and every time I peruse photos from Milan, Berlin, New York or wherever, EVERYTIME, without fail, I have to stop, breath and reassess my "coolness" factor. Below are the pictures that have done it to me this year.

  • You see, I love fashion, and most of all -- beauty (obviously as I choose to write about it everyday). So I can't help, but feel emotionally invested in makeup trends and hairstyles. And said "emotional investment" provokes me to try, with all my little beauty-obsessed might, to really understand the style culture and embrace all it's bizarro moments. For the most part, I think I get it, or at least I pretend to -- like last Friday night, when I left my comfort zone and rocked black lipstick circa Fall Fashion Week 2008 to a party (see other runway disaster makeup trends here).
