There's no shortage of random studies out there. Every day we read things like "people who own cats live 15 minute shorter lives than people with dogs" and "eating 27 baby carrots a day can decrease your risk of stroke by 3 percent." Most just inspire eye rolls, but every now and then a stat will raise our collective well-groomed brows and spark a conversation in the office. Below are five that did exactly that today:
• A survey found that
74 percent of people go on vacation with sunscreen that's more than a year old -- meaning it's expired and doing basically nothing to protect their skin. Also,
65 percent of people didn't know that sunscreens expire after a year. Did you? If not,

• A recent study found people who drink
one can of soda (regular, not diet) a day have a
22 percent increased risk of Type 2 diabetes. Time to kick that Coke habit, folks. (

• Vintage stores in London have seen a
266 percent increase in sales after the release of Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby." There were similar increases after "Downton Abbey" became popular. Clearly we've got an obsession with '20s style. (

•
800 percent. That's the increase in the number of teens getting Botox in the last three years. That's a lot of frozen faces at prom. (

• The caffeine levels in green tea can vary by more than
240 percent across different brands. So essentially, you have no idea if that mug will keep you up all night or barely do a thing. Good times. (
