Fashion folks may have their Hanky Pankies in a twist over the $4,000 sneakers Chanel sent down its Parisian runway yesterday, but makeup mavens are a-tizzied over a much more affordable look -- the sequined eye.
The handiwork of Chanel makeup artist Peter Philips, the attention-grabbing eye makeup is at once glitzy and glamorous.

"For this show, we wanted to create a beautiful, natural look that focused on just one element of makeup to really make it stand out. So it's all about the eyes," Philips says of the spangled ministrations that have women everywhere poised to play copycat. "It was so much fun playing with glitter and making a look that truly stands out against an amazing décor, yet remains in tune with the mood of the collection."
To achieve the look goddess-like look, Philips painted on a thick, classic black cat eye across models' top lids and created an equally broad streak of sequins under the bottom.
The how to? Philips lined the eye with
Chanel's Ligne Graphique eyeliner ($34) in Noir then applied
Le Crayon Kohl Intense Eye Pencil, ($28), in Claire and liberal coats of
Le Volume de Chanel Mascara ($32) in Noir imparted long, luxurious lashes.

But, it was the glitz that got tongues wagging. Liberally applied sequins (try
Makeup Forever's Crystal Strass in Midnight Glow, $21) worked to achieve the "exaggerated holographic" look Philips was aiming for.
Of course, the crowd was rapt, too, by the famed fashion house's haute couture collection which boasted iridescent gowns, sheer tops and bottoms, funky metallic knee pads and, yes, those over-the-top kicks.
Add in the fact that model du jour, the heavy eyebrow-blessed Cara Delevinge, appeared as a bride on designer Karl Lagerfeld's arm at the end of the
spéctacle (with Lagerfeld's godson Hudson Koening on hand as "ring bearer") and the Chanel show, as usual, was
incroyable.
