Eau de Death: Because, Who Doesn't Want to Smell Like a Cadaver?

(I swear on my new Tory Burch sandals that this is not an April Fools' hoax)
Usually when an atypical fragrance hits the market, Demeter is behind it. After all, it's their mission to turn all the wondrous scents that surround us into a wearable format.

Pizza, Dirt, New Zealand. They have all been bottled by Demeter.

But for once the oddball Demeter Fragrance Library isn't responsible for what has to be the most sincerely bizarre scents to have ever been bottled: death.

No, for that, we have Dr. Raychelle Burks of Doane College in Nebraska to thank. Burks has patented a scent that smells like, I kid you not, rotting flesh.

READ: Smell Like Summer in a Bottle

After three years of experimenting to achieve just the right notes, Burks has arrived at a mixture of putrescine and cadaverine, the chemical compounds that are released while a body decays, to be able to bottle what she is confident is the smell of death.

Why would she, or anyone, want to create (much less wear) such a thing? To be safe from the imminent zombie apocalypse of course.

Duh.
