Elle's EIC Doesn't Want You To Wear Makeup To Work

Robbie Myers explains "the problem" with getting all dolled up for work. What's your opinion?
I'm a sucker for a good celeb-with-no-makeup shot, and I'm obviously not alone. Tabloids and news outlets tease pictures of A-listers without makeup like it's breaking news. On the scale of paparazzi bait, catching a celeb au natural is up there with a starlet accidentally flashing the camera in a designer gown.

But after regularly seeing premiere photos and style recaps, it's easy to forget that underneath all that glitz and glam, celebs are real people, too. And according to Robbie Meyers, Editor in Chief of Elle magazine, we ordinary-folk are also susceptible to this same phenomena in our everyday lives.

In an interview with Into the Gloss, Myers commented on what she sees as a problem with women wearing makeup to work. "I tell this to people in my office: If you start wearing makeup when you're young, you're going to be wedded to it. You get used to seeing your face that way and then you feel naked without it. "

Sound familiar? If you can barely recognize yourself when you look in the mirror pre-makeup application, Myers' statement may hit close to home. But research has shown that women wearing more makeup were judged as more competent, trustworthy, and likable. So are we wearing makeup for our own aesthetics, or for others'?

Myers believes it's all about the individual. "It's interesting -- the fashion business takes women who wear no makeup very seriously, which I think is kind of great. If you look at what you'd call the more 'senior' members of the fashion class, they don't wear a ton of makeup. So ... do you have to wear makeup to be taken more seriously? No. It's just a matter of what your look is and how you feel about it."

What do you think? Are you a slave to your makeup bag every day? Is makeup necessary in the workplace, or should it be scaled down? Sound off in the comments!
