Vaccine Curbs Killer Strain of HPV in Teens

Plus, AMA classifies obesity as a disease, Chipotle labels GMO ingredients, and more headlines we're talking about today
• A study in "The Journal of Infectious Diseases" reported that vaccinations led to a sharp drop in the number of teen girls infected with the most deadly strain of the human papillomavirus (HPV) -- the STD linked to cervical cancer. The number of girls infected with this strain dropped to 3.6 percent among girls ages 14 to 19 in 2010, down from 7.2 percent in 2006. (Source)

• Good news for the guys who secretly use our stuff to cover up pimples and dark circles: Tom Ford is expanding his cosmetics kingdom to include a line of makeup for men. The "multifunctional skin-care and grooming products" will include a face cleanser, moisturizer, eye treatment, purifying mud mask, concealer and bronzing gel. (Source)

• At the annual meeting of the American Medical Association, policymakers voted to classify obesity as "a disease that requires a range of medical interventions to advance treatment and prevention." Although the vote carries no weight with insurance providers (read: drugs and treatment may not be covered), doctors anticipate that the re-classification will encourage the development of new prescription diet drugs and other treatment options for overweight patients. • It's official. Kate Hudson is the uber girl next door. Check out the cute behind-the-scenes interview from her recent commercial shoot for Almay's Smart Shade CC Cream. Shot by filmmaker Lisa Cholodenko ("The Kids Are All Right," "Six Feet Under"), the commercial features a few sweet, candid moments where Hudson reveals her favorite weekend activities (football, sports, sports, and more sports -- who knew?).

• Mexican fast-food restaurant Chipotle announced that it is labeling all ingredients on its menu containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The chain started labeling ingredients on its website in March with markers for local (L), Responsibly Raised® (R), organic (O) and pasture-raised dairy (D). Reps for Chipotle say the restaurant is trying to minimize its use of GMO ingredients, including switching their frying oil from soybean to sunflower. (Source)
