NYFW Spy: How to Do Essie's Inverted French Manicure

Folks at the DKNY show at New York Fashion Week were, of course, excited about Donna Karan's new line, but the nails, too, had everyone agog.

The brainchild of Essie's Michelle Saunders (who also created two neutral options for that runway), the new-fangled inverted French manicure is a modernized take on the classic, classy manicure staple.

Here's how to recreate it chez vous using Essie polishes:

1. Apply a first base coat to clean nails
2. Apply one coat of blanc
3. Apply smokin' hot to the center of the nail, leaving a thin, white arc around the entire base of the nail
4. Brush on a layer of allure (adding this layer creates the "cement" hue)
5. Finish with matte about you top coat

And, there you have it. A new, decidedly "street" version of the formerly staid French manicure.
