It's that time of year again: Pantone has just announced Living Coral as the new Pantone Color of the Year. Yep, that means Ultra Violet's reign is coming to its end — it's officially time to make way for 2019's new color.
According to Pantone, Living Coral was chosen for its innate optimism, as well as the fact that it marries themes of both nature and technology. (And yes, the press release also mentions coral reefs as a "source of sustenance and shelter to sea life," so if you're detecting an environmental reference, it's definitely there.)
"With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial Pantone Living Coral hit a responsive chord," said Pantone Color Institute executive director Leatrice Eiseman.
Like last year, Pantone has partnered with Butter London on a six-piece capsule collection. As you can imagine, Living Coral translates particularly well to cosmetics and the new collection is
quite picturesque.
The new collection includes three nail polishes (
Living Coral Patent Shine 10x Nail Lacquer,
Living Coral Glazen Peel-Off Glitter Nail Lacquer and
Living Coral Crushed Diamonds Patent Shine 10x Nail Lacquer, $12 each), as well as the
Living Coral Plush Rush Blush Stick, $24, and the
Living Coral Plush Rush Lip Gloss, $20. The gloss and the blush are currently sold out, but they'll become available again in January. And for very devoted fans, you can nab all three polishes in the
Living Coral Lacquer Set, $22.
We find ourselves excited by the new shade — and we might just celebrate by indulging in some vibrant Living Coral cosmetics.
