"Dancing With the Stars" judge Julianne Hough is the epitome of a triple threat: She's an accomplished dancer, singer and actress. But she's also gorgeous, sweet, funny and humble, which makes the "triple threat" label seem completely insufficient.
We caught up with Hough at the launch of the
Venus Swirl Razor, $12.99 (she has a hip-swinging "swirl" dance -- not even kidding), and she opened up about everything from her beauty essentials to her favorite sweatpants (clearly she's not in the same camp as Eva Mendes). It's nice to know that when she's not out conquering the world (i.e. winning dance competitions or starring in rom-coms), Hough is comfy and casual just like the rest of us.
1) TotalBeauty: How would you describe your style?
Julianne Hough: I'm all over the place. One day I'm going to be super preppy, and then the next I'll be kind of rockerish. And then the next day I'll be kind of hippie. I'll see pictures and think, Oh, I like that -- even though it's so different from what I wore the previous day.
2) TB: What do you do with your hair when you dance or work out?
JH: [Since I cut my hair,] I miss a ponytail. Never take a ponytail for granted. Now, I braid it or I put a headband on. And I look like I should go play volleyball or soccer, but that's so not me. This is a grow-out stage. I had the pixie earlier this year, and I loved the pixie, but I have hair ADD. I can't sit still for five seconds with my hair. I don't really know where I'm growing it out to, but I'm going to play and see where it goes.
3) TB: What beauty essentials do you keep in your bag?
JH: I always have a lip balm, I usually have a compact in case I need to put something under my eyes. And I usually have mascara with me, too.
4) TB: Does dance influence your beauty routine?
JH: I know this sounds cheesy, but dancing totally feeds my soul. And when my soul is happy and good, that makes me feel beautiful and more radiant and happy. You can see someone's beauty from across the room when they're happy. But that's the cheesy version. Dance also makes you sweat, and it's fun and it's healthy for your body. It's just fun.
5) TB: What's the oldest item in your closet you refuse to throw out?
JH: Sweatpants. A good pair of worn-in sweatpants -- there's nothing better than that.
