Researchers in Japan tested cannabinoids and found that they "displayed potent anti-inflammatory activity and marked inhibition of tumor promotion in two-stage mouse skin carcinogenesis." Translation : a key component of weed seems to help stave off skin cancer.

Now, before you start getting baked before baking your bod on the beach, let's back track a little. According to an article in CosmeticDesigns.com, a U.S. Biotech company, on the heels of the Japanese results, is "developing a line of cosmetics based on synthetic cannabinoids" (compounds present in Cannabis and occur naturally in the nervous and immune systems of animals), meaning that your derm more than likely won't be issuing you a medical maryjane card any time soon.

Dr. Dorothy Bray, the President of the company that is developing the skin care line says that, " We have been focusing our efforts on meeting the ever increasing market demand for natural cannabinoid-based solutions. This evidence suggests our product lines, which include natural combinations of high-quality, organic cannabinoids, should yield efficacious anti-cancer properties cannabinoid-based treatments."

A great bonus of incorporating this type of ingredient into anti-aging cosmetics is that it appeals to eco-conscious consumers as well as beauty-obsessed customers.
