Work the product evenly through dry hair with fingertips. Use a comb to tease the bottom half of your hair to create the gritty texture and volume then pull hair to one side and begin braiding. Secure with an elastic and then use your hands to loosen up the braid for that messy-in-a-good way look, says Pohl.

For extremely tousled waves like Brandy's, Pohl says to start by applying a strong-hold gel like Davines Defining Shaping Gel, $17.99 to hair. Create a half-up pompadour at your crown and secure with bobby pins. With the rest of your hair, wrap small sections of hair around a one-inch curling iron until your entire head is loosely curled. Brush curls out and tease underneath for volume and to add that roughed up texture.
