The New Year is around the corner which means one thing: You've aged one more year. I know, I know, you don't need any reminders. But what if I were to tell you how to get older without looking it? Now you're listening, right? While every year we make unrealistic resolutions -- and end up breaking them -- you can resolve to have younger-looking skin, shiny hair, and gravity-defying jowls with just a few simple tweaks.

After talking to celebrity dermatologist Ava Shamban, MD, author of "Heal Your Skin," and celebrity hairstylist Kevin Mancuso, Creative Director for Nexxus Salon Hair Care, we got the goods on how to keep your age-defying resolutions in check this year.

Your face
If you're well versed in anti-aging speak then you know all about using retinol to fight your wrinkles. But Shamban says there's a new star ingredient in the anti-aging arena called PentaPeptide. "It's an amino acid that contains five peptides, which impairs muscle contraction, making the skin look younger," she says.

Another great ingredient in skin care is argireline, which "works similar to Botox by blocking the nerve signals that control the contraction of facial muscles. This produces a significant reduction in both the depth and size of fine lines and wrinkles," says Shamban.

Your hair
While Mancuso says hair doesn't age in the same way as skin (since skin cells are still alive, unlike hair cells), it does show signs of aging. "As hair ages it shows signs of volume loss by reduction of hair's diameter size, less shine, roughness, dryness, breakage, brittleness, loss of color vibrancy, and unruliness."

To fight these signs, Mancuso recommends the new Nexxus Youth Renewal line (available nationally starting January 2013). The formulas, which are infused with the VITA-8 COMPLEX (containing Omega 3, Vitamin E, Wheat Protein, Benzophenone-4, Keratin, Essence of Pearl, Argan Oil, and CoQ10), help to improve color radiance, shine, strength and volume, as well as reduce frizz. "The Youth Renewal™ Rejuvenating Dry Shampoo, $17.99, helps maintain color longer, as it allows more time in-between washes," Mancuso says. "And our Youth Renewal™ Rejuvenating Elixir, $17.99, is a lightweight leave-in treatment that helps make hair look more youthful and vibrant."

Your eyes
Tired, sallow, and puffy eyes are a dead giveaway to your age. If you have dark circles, Shamban suggests looking for an eye cream that has vitamin C and K, and caffeine. But if you're fighting puffiness, she recommends creams with cucumber extract, green tea, or aloe vera instead.

Your lips
In the winter, dry, chapped lips are not only a hassle but can be painful, and accelerate aging. The solution lies in your SPF. "Unlike the rest of your body, lips do not have an epidermal layer," says Shamban. "So sunscreen is key to keeping your lips hydrated and helps with dry, chapped lips. Make sure your lip balm has at least SPF 15, and remember to apply sunscreen around the mouth to stop the formation of wrinkles."
