In a day and age where we are constantly exposed to glossy, (ahem) retouched magazine covers and celebrities who have "look amazing at all times" practically written into their contracts, it's easy to get down on yourself. We're all guilty of spending tons of money searching for beauty products and procedures that are going to magically "fix" what we don't like about ourselves. With that said, we think it's time to start loving ourselves a little more and using beauty products that simply enhance, not mask, our features, shall we?
We know, easier said than done. It will always be easy to riddle of "my thighs are too big" or "if only my boobs didn't sag," but what if instead we talked about the things we're happy with? What if we got on the soapbox (or the futuristic equivalent: the Internet) and proclaimed our love for our best beauty attribute -- to celebrate our skin, or nose, or lips, or whatever it is we are proud to call ours?
Well, we asked our Total Beauty Community members to do just that -- to share what it is about themselves they love most and why. We then asked what beauty products they trust to enhance, not "hide" these cherished attributes. Why did we do this? Because we know the beauty products that are worthy to grace our members' most precious parts are sure to be gems, right?
Why: "I love my lips! When I was younger, they were so full -- I was ashamed. I wanted thinner, smaller lips. As I got older I grew to love them. I am always getting compliments on my smile and how 'pink' my lips are."
Favorite lip-enhancing product: "The product I love the most is Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss, $18. I have the glosses in a variety of colors! Just to match the mood I am in."
Why: "I love my eyes because I think they're this great shade of gray-blue and they're big and expressive. I'm always getting compliments on them and some people have even asked if I wear contacts (no, I do not)."
Why: "My hair is long, well past my rear, and people comment on it all the time. I have had long hair since I was a little girl and [still] cry when I get it cut -- LOL."
Why: "Yes, I am very nearsighted and I wear contact lenses, and yes I have dark circles under my eyes that seem to be cemented there, but I still love my eyes. My eyes are large and almond-shaped. They are very dark and mysterious and with a little eyeliner and mascara, they look deep and enticing. Most men comment that I have 'bedroom eyes' and even though I am 60-years-old, I still have many men who are drawn to me because of my eyes."
Favorite eye-enhancing product: "With the help of Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer, $22 and some mineral makeup, I can still bring them to their knees."
