If your skin tone is very fair and freckly ...
Your best hair colors are: Light auburn tones

Your porcelain skin tone is best complemented with rouge or plum-colored reds -- and having freckles will help amp the believability of being a "true redhead." And, it's easier to pull off than you might think. As John explains, "Red can be worn by almost anyone if it is the right shade, but ideally it is best worn on someone with pale and/or freckly skin." Think Lindsay Lohan during her adorable "Herbie the Love Bug" days.

While LiLo has moved on to bigger and blonder things, Julianne Moore and Emma Stone have owned their red hues, which emphasize their ivory complexions. Red hair is certainly a hot trend right now (look at Rihanna's fiery hair-emblazoned-album), and there's no time like the present to try something new.

If your skin tone is fair ...
Your best hair colors are: Cool, icy, ash tones

Not only can you rock the trendy light auburn hue, but, with your skin tone, you can also sport platinum blonde and soft ash browns, which look best on light skin. Minardi says, "Contrasting skin and hair tones are less flattering." So, you want to choose a color that complements your skin tone, bringing out the under pigments.

A couple fair celebrities that wear these winning colors are Michelle Williams with her platinum blonde hair and Angelina Jolie with her cool brown hue.

If your skin tone is beige ...
Your best hair colors are: Neutral or warm toned blonde or light brown shades

To flatter the pink undertones in your skin, choose a soft, blonde-on-blonde color that's enriched with warm blonde highlights, says Minardi. You can also try a warm light brown tone, but avoid dark colors like deep browns and blacks since too much contrast is unflattering.

Jennifer Aniston's medium blonde highlights are practically iconic and Blake Lively's gorgeous, warm golden locks are to die for. Cunningham says, "This blonde color works well for them because it pulls out the undertones in their skin and makes them radiant." In addition, "their hair is a little longer, allowing the highlights to look natural and beautiful."

At-home hair color product to try: Highlights are usually best done in the salon since they require a bit more skill than applying allover color, but if you're confident in your abilities, try this reader fave: Clairol Nice 'n Easy Frost & Tip Creme, $10.

If your skin tone is golden ...
Your best hair colors are: Multidimensional warm russet tones

For medium skin tones, go for soft, light to medium brown-based colors with dark blonde highlights. Or create a slight contrast by choosing a lighter brown for highlights placed on a warm brown base. Minardi says, these colors will blend with your skin and downplay any imperfections on your face.

Camilla Belle and Jessica Alba have medium-light complexions and boast honey brown highlights, which help add dimension, warmth and softness to dark hair. They can also help play up your eyes, according to Cunningham. "The rich browns in the highlights match incredibly [well] with the shine and sparkle of brown eyes," she says.
