"If there were a 12-step program for lip gloss addiction, my friends would be scheduling an intervention. My newest crush is this gloss-with-benefits, which has medium shine, a hint of color and tons of SPF. Not too sticky, the formula nevertheless lasts -- and its pint-sized tube (about half the size of other glosses) is tiny enough to come everywhere with me. Which it totally does."
Peter Lamas Avocado Oil Ultra Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner, $18 each
"For the record, I'm not a crunchy, hippy-ish gal at all. That said I do have fantasies of completely ridding my product stash of unnecessary and supposedly unhealthy chemicals. It's the reason I first picked up this paraben- and sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. Not only are they more natural, but they also help tame my seriously frizzy, medium-thick, color-treated waves by adding intense moisture (by way of avocado and olive oils). And don't worry, the smell is fresh, not patchouli-like at all, and the shampoo totally lathers."
"I've used plenty of bronzers in the past, but never felt like it was an essential item in my daily routine (most just left me looking dirty or fake-orange). That is, until I tried this bronzer. The first day I wore it, Editor-in-Chief Beth Mayall commented on my "glowing skin." Since that was the first time I'd ever gotten such a comment from anyone, I figured I was on to something good.
Now this bronzer is not only a part of my daily makeup routine, but on the weekends, it is my routine. A quick swipe all over (I even use it as eyeshadow) and I have a natural-looking glow that lasts all day. Yes, it's pricey, but it blends seamlessly into my pasty skin, and after a couple months of use it still looks brand new, so it lasts a long time."
"Foaming cleanser is my go-to product for keeping oily skin under control during warm weather months. But with all of the moisture being sucked out of my skin by winter wind, I was in desperate need of a rich, luxurious cream cleanser. Thankfully I found this one from Neutrogena. Not only was I initially attracted to its pretty, pearly texture and light floral scent, I fell in love with the way it feels on my skin. If you take time to massage it around your eyes, you don't even need to use a makeup remover -- bonus! And it never leaves behind a filmy residue like some cream cleansers can -- double bonus! After just two weeks of use, it restored my lizard-like skin back to its soft, supple previous state. To be honest, I never thought swapping a cleanser from summer to winter would make a big difference, but for me, it totally did."
"Somewhere between sliced bread and Spanx on the list of great inventions is this line of haircut-specific shampoos, conditioners and styling products. The sulfate-free Normal-Dry Shampoo and Medium Conditioner left my normally out-of-control waves nicely smooth and smelling so good, I kept sniffing all day. Styling products specifically for haircuts -- bob, blunt, long layers, pixie and shag -- is the added genius of the line, giving each of us the control and structure our cuts deserve."
The Most Awesome Face Moisturizers, Worst Drugstore Shampoos
and The Best Mascaras. Ever. are just some of the "best and worst" product stories we deliver to you each week. And all of them are based on products that TotalBeauty.com readers love (or hate!), and their honest opinions about them. But from time to time, we editors start to feel left out of this product rant-and-rave session, which is why we're sharing some of our favorites this week.
As beauty editors, it's our job to test and try hundreds of products every year. And like our readers, we're often disappointed by many of them (like the ones on this list), but once in a while we find a standout product we've just got to share with you. Sounds like tough work, right? Well, we've got a little confession to make
We're a bit (okay, totally) addicted to trying new beauty products, so our job isn't too tough. We love testing, reviewing and then finally spreading the word about them. We have had our share of products to choose from this year, ranging from useless and ineffective to some amazing new technological breakthroughs. And though it was tough, here's a list of our 12 most recent must-rave-about favorite products -- and why we like them. Don't agree with our reviews?
