Claire Danes, Dianna Agron, and Mireille Enos all stood out with eye-catching lips, but Angelina Jolie outshined them all. The key to commanding the room's attention (besides having big, beautiful lips to begin with)? Go bright neon red.
Guys often complain that women wear too much black eyeliner with their smoky eyes. While that alone shouldn't stop us, I think Kate's bronze smoky eye by Molly Stern is the perfect date-friendly alternative to a technique that can verge on being a tad Goth.
To get the look, sweep a shimmery light peach shade over lids as a base. Use a small smudger brush to blend a rich brown metallic shadow into your crease and along your lower lashline (try Nars Shimmer Eye Shadow in Galapagos, $23). Then blend a gold shadow on the inner corners of your lid (try Chanel Ombre Essentielle in Blazing Gold, $28.50). Finish with several coats of black, glossy mascara (try CoverGirl LashBlast Luxe Mascara, $6).

Prettiest Face: Evan Rachel Wood
This was one of my favorite looks of the evening, courtesy of celebrity makeup artist Toby Fleischman. It's super simple, yet packs a whallop of color.
Dressing up when you have a cropped 'do isn't always easy, but Michelle pulled it off beautifully with this vintage headband from Fred Leighton.
To get the look, dab a little pomade between your fingers (try Fekkai COIFF Nonchalant Piecing and Forming Wax, $25), then grab and smooth out small sections of your hair to get Michelle's piece-y look. Set with hairspray. Place a jeweled headband around the crown of your head, resting it just above your ears.
Part hair to the side and, working in one- to two-inch sections, roll hair in circles and pin to your scalp. (Be sure to roll your bangs back and to the side like hers.) Blow dry or air dry hair, then unpin dry curls and finger comb. Spot-curl any areas with a large curling iron if needed. Set with hairspray.
Unique, statuesque gowns reigned at the 69th annual Golden Globe Awards, which is why when it came to hair and makeup, less was refreshingly more.
For me, this year served as a great reminder of celebrity makeup artist Molly Stern's general (genius) rule: "If you are playing up a certain area of the face [such as the eyes], keep everything else fresh and natural." It's advice we've all heard before, but when it comes to getting all fancy, it's easy to forget!
As for hair, celebrity hairstylist Oscar Blandi recommends treating your hair "like you would your face." Translation: Don't over-wash it and be sure to use a moisturizing treatment the night before a big event for gorgeous, shiny results.
I've singled out the women I think should win awards for their various beauteous bits and give expert how-tos that'll help you recreate the looks. So go ahead, take a peek. Then get inspired for your next date, party, wedding, or awards ceremony!
