Trying to define the word "hipster" is like trying to catch a butterfly. It's one of those oblique, ever-changing terms that's pretty much impossible to pin down.
Which is why we're not about to dive into the whole "What is a hipster, really?" debate. But what we are willing to declare -- even though it may cause a bit of a ruckus -- is this: Hipsters like makeup, too!
Next time you're browsing through Sephora, look around. We guarantee you'll see at least one in the checkout line. But a hipster's cosmetic bag isn't filled with CoverGirl concealer or Revlon blush. They're into the indie, you've-probably-never-heard-of-it kind of stuff.
So, we've come up with a list of our favorite hipster-approved beauty products. And yeah, we know, a true hipster would never give anything a big ol' stamp of approval. But we're willing to bet that even the hippest of hipsters -- you know, the ones deep in the heart of Brooklyn -- would be into these products.
So, squeeze into a pair of skinny jeans, adjust your thick-rimmed glasses, and keep clicking to get these goods before they become mainstream.

S.W. Basics Cleanser
Brooklyn-based company S.W. Basics makes all their products from scratch, hipster style. This cleanser doesn't foam, because suds are for suckers. Instead, it's made from 100 percent organic vegetable glycerin, rosewater, and tea tree oil. And the packaging is oh-so-hipster. Everybody knows hipsters love apothecary bottles.

MAKE Palette
This is both really cool and really hipster: Proceeds from artsy beauty company MAKE go to a women's co-op in Brooklyn. Feed your beauty junkie habit and pay it forward at the same time with this gorgeous palette, designed by British architect and artist Faye Toogood.

Citrus and Poppy Seed Vegan Soap
What's the only thing more hipster than making home-brewed beer? Making homemade vegan soap. Artisan soap company Metropolis Soap Co. is 100 percent vegan- and gluten-free -- and they come in a bunch of fresh, pretty scents. Our favorite is citrus and poppy seed.

Cherry Coke Lip Balm
Can't you just see hipster sweetheart Zooey Deschanel carrying this Cherry Coke lip balm tin around in her vintage handbag? It's sweet and retro -- the epitome of quirky girl Zooey.
