Spring was all about the messy side braid, but for summer the braid gets twisted into a bun for a more sophisticated take on the look. It's versatile enough to wear for a night out (Kristen Bell showed it off on the red carpet) or for a casual weekend brunch. Here's how to get it
Loosely pull your hair back into a low ponytail, leaving a few face framing pieces hanging. Then separate the pony into two sections -- one just a tad thinner than the other. Take the thicker section and loop it around into a loose bun and secure it with bobby pins (try Scunci Bobby Pins, $1.99). Next, take the hanging section and loosely braid it. When you reach the end, secure it with an elastic, then wrap the braid around the bun. Secure the braided bun with bobby pins. Keep in mind, it's supposed to look messy so don't make it look perfectly symmetrical.

Step 3: Set your style
Wrap your face framing layers around a large-barreled curling iron for just a few seconds to give them a soft, wavy effect. Then set your entire style with a finishing spray like Nexxus Maxximum Super Hold Styling and Finishing Mist, $7.97.
