Braids
Danilo says to think of braids as the new hair accessories. You can do a braided headband, a thick French braid around your hairline, a braided ponytail, or a thin braid hanging with long hair. "We saw the first generation of braids with Jennifer Aniston and Lauren Conrad, but you'll start to see braided details as accents on all different types of hairstyles." The key is to make them look sleek and healthy, so use a deep-conditioning treatment once a week, like Pantene Advanced+ Keratin Repair 60-Second Therapy Ampoules, $12.99.

For a side fishtail braid, tie your hair into a low, side ponytail with a thin elastic or rubber band. Split your hair into two sections, then take a small section of hair from the outside of the left half and bring it over to add to the right half. Do the same thing on the other side, and repeat until you're done. Finally, tie the ends with an elastic, then cut the first elastic at the top.

Volume
Gone are the days of the '60s beehive and teased crowns a la Amy Winehouse. The chic look of the contemporary times is "realistic volume," says Danilo. "It's volume that looks doable and soft -- not like what you would see on the runway." He says it's crucial to build volume on conditioned hair, so start by prepping the hair with shampoo and conditioner that can help repair damage, like Pantene Advanced+ Keratin Repair Shampoo and Conditioner, $7.99 each.

Then Danilo recommends spritzing a leave-in conditioning on damp hair. "It seems redundant but the extra conditioner is helpful." To aid the volume, use a root lift spray, like Pantene Fine Hair Solutions Root Lifter Spray Gel, $3.99. "I find it phenomenal. It has a little bit of tack and texture, but it leaves the hair shiny, touchable, and with three times the volume."

If you want curly volume, you can toss your hair up into hot rollers for a quick fix. Danilo says hot rollers are really easy to use since all you have to do is "set your hair in the rollers, let them cool, brush them out, and voilà it's remarkable how effective rollers are. Plus, it's less damaging than fussing with a curling iron or blow dryer."

Sleek
Danilo is already predicting clean, super-straight hair will be one of the biggest trends next season. "The simplicity is what's attractive about it," he says. He tried out the look on Gwen Stefani and added a bit of a twist in the front. "It combines a tailored, boyish top with a sort of feminine looseness on the sides and back." The key is to mist damp hair with a leave-in-conditioner, such as Pantene Aqua Light Weightless Conditioning Shake, $6.27. This will give your hair softness and movement, says Danilo. Then, run Pantene Daily Moisture Renewal Silky Moisture Whip, $6.29, through hair before blow-drying. Next, Danilo says to flat iron hair to get an extra silky look and texture. "Pull one side back and secure it underneath the layers in the back so it looks seamless." For the top section, brush hair up for a little pompadour and keep it in place by usingPantene Stylers Anti-Humidity Maximum Hold Hairspray, $3.97.

While summer was about intricate braided updos, beachy waves, and sun-kissed highlights, winter's reigning trend is simplicity. "The overall movement we're seeing is wearable hair that doesn't have any complexity," says Danilo, Pantene's celebrity hairstylist. "It may have some twists and turns, but overall the presentation is easy, simple hair."

But to pull off the latest trends, Danilo says you first need to have healthy hair. "A lot of this season's trends incorporate long hair and hot tools. So you want to have a good foundation that can hold up to the heat," he says. "Skin regenerates but hair needs all the help it can get to keep it from snapping."

So he recommends using moisturizing hair care products that can recoup even the coarsest, damaged hair, like the new Pantene Advanced+ Keratin Repair line. Having healthy hair is especially important now, says Danilo. "This season's new styles all highlight healthy, shiny hair." Want to see the new styles of winter? Read on.
