For a lot of women, a bad day starts with waking up to a head full of frizzy hair that refuses to stand down. You know what we're talking about -- the kinks that won't curl, the frizz and flyaways that won't smooth, and the overly-volumized hair that you end up pulling back into a bun.
Sadly, this perfectly describes reader Devran's mornings. And it goes without saying that a bad hair day majorly starts things off on the wrong foot.
After years of pulling and yanking (and resigning herself to wearing her go-to baseball cap yet again), it's time for a hair intervention. We challenged Devran to use the Dove Hair Nourishing Oil Care line for 10 days straight to see if her dry, unruly curls could be tamed. Was the mission accomplished? Read on.

Meet Devran
Devran, a 26-year-old email marketing specialist, is half Turkish and half Italian. And while she thanks her bicultural heritage for her tan olive skin tone, it's also responsible for her very thick, very curly hair, which is the cause of many frustrations.
"On a bad hair day, my hair becomes very frizzy," she says. "Since I can't brush my hair when it's curly, the curls can become deformed and get really kinky on top. Frizz and dryness are my hair enemies."
Devran says she wants her hair to be doused with moisture, so that it can be softer and less frizzy. Oh, and "I want the curls to be more defined, which is super important to me. And shiny," she says. It's a tall order. Can Dove's new products deliver?
She applies a quarter-size amount of Dove Nutritive Therapy Nourishing Oil Care Leave-In Smoothing Cream, $5.99, throughout her hair. "The cream isn't too thick, which I like because really thick cream tends to over-saturate my hair and weigh it down," says Devran. She also likes how the cream "helps to contour my curls -- even though I didn't have time to blow dry my hair with a diffuser. They look more like ringlets. I think I'm already hooked."

You can get too much of a good thing
After using the shampoo and conditioner the next day, Devran applies Dove Nutritive Therapy Nourishing Oil Care Daily Treatment Conditioner, $5.99, concentrating it on her ends, for about five minutes. "Coming out of the shower, my hair feels even softer than when I just used the regular conditioner," she says. Devran applies the cream throughout her hair, and after drying, she says, "it's noticeably shinier, a lot softer, and even less frizzy than yesterday."
But as the day progresses, Devran says her hair begins to feel "oversaturated and a little oily. I feel like I have to wash my hair again." With dry, thick, curly hair (like Devran's), you can run the risk of using too much product, leaving you with hair that's weighed down. "Even though this deep conditioner is a daily treatment that's supposed to be used in lieu of the regular conditioner, I thought my dry hair could handle it," says Devran. "But it's obvious my hair didn't need both conditioners -- and now I realize that overdoing it with any product is never a good idea."

Finally, the perfect combination
It's a new day and Devran tries a different product mix for her hair. She shampoos, skips the regular conditioner, uses the deep conditioning treatment and applies a tiny dab of the leave-in smoothing cream.
"Eureka! I've found it," she says. "This is the best combination for my hair. I think because the deep conditioner really moisturizes my hair, I don't need to put in as much cream when I'm styling."
Now her hair is soft, frizz-free, and the curls are defined without looking overly saturated with product or greasy.
