Mia Farrow
Farrow's blonde pixie cut, which was created by Vidal Sassoon, was adored for its tomboy simplicity. After "Rosemary's Baby" in '68, the look pretty much became the number one style for pregnant women wanting to have less hair to deal with as it was, and continues to be, "sooo easy and so fresh," says Hershberger. Celebs of today are bringing back this once super-trendy cut as we've seen it recently reappear on Michelle Williams.

Joan Jett
Jett's rock star black and banged long shag (borderline mullet) not only inspired wannabe rebels in the '70s with its raunchy flare, it continues to be recreated by celebrities today. Johannson rocked a similar 'do in '03 when she was still trying to make a name for herself in Hollywood, and Kristen Stewart reincarnated the cut to play Jett in "The Runaways" this year. "This rocker style is edgy and cool. It makes a statement," says Hershberger, and that's why it is still so loved.

Blake Lively
Word on the street is that this "Gossip Girl's" long blonde hair is one of the more recent most requested styles by young women looking for hot Hollywood locks. "Everyone wants extensions!" says Hershberger. Why? "With long hair you can do just about anything, and [you] can experiment with different styles," she says.

Victoria Beckham
Posh's sleek cut not only lives up to the former Spice Girl's pseudonym, it has come to define it. Tricomi says her short and polished look continues to be a hugely requested style. Hershberger loves it because it "can be worn sleek or tousled," so it is an easy look for women to play with. See more of Beckham's hairstyles over the years here.

You've done it -- hastily ripped a celebrity's photo from the seams of a glossy magazine because you fell in love with her haircut. Then you likely sequestered any bashful inhibition and whipped it out at your salon appointment, asking your stylist to recreate the hairstyle down to an inch of its fabulous-looking life. You most likely walked out of the salon feeling chic and sexy with your new celebrity-inspired look just to realize that the woman next to you at the grocery store, in line behind you at Starbucks and sitting next to you at the movie theater worshiped that same disheveled shag that was splashed across last month's "W" cover. This happens because some hairstyles have that special something that speaks to women all over America and can thus, become as famous and recognizable as the celebrity wearing it. Skip ahead to see which hairstyles are the most requested of all time.

The psychology that takes place in and outside the salon chair is profound. Many women believe a quick snip here or highlight there can instantaneously change the way they see themselves -- and the way the outside world perceives them. And it's so darn true. According to a study done by Marianne LaFrance, a professor of psychology at Yale University, "different hairstyles quickly lead others to 'see' different kinds of people." The study, conducted in 2001, found women with short, tousled hair were seen by respondents as confident and outgoing, while long-haired women were perceived to be more affluent. This means that while you stare longingly at Gwyneth Paltrow's sleek bob, you're deriving meaning from the style -- it's informing you of what kind of person it represents. And it's when the vast majority of women see something in a singular hairstyle that they identify with or want to identify with, that hairstyle becomes iconic and consequently, a guiding light, leading women across the nation into the chairs of their stylists -- photo in hand.

To find out which hairstyles women request most or which hairstyles are "speaking" to their psyches, we went to veterans of the hairstyling industry. Sally Hershberger, of the Sally Hershberger salons and product line, and Edward Tricomi of the Warren-Tricomi salons and product line. Both are world-renowned stylists that have been asked time and time again to recreate celebrity hairstyles. Here they share with us the ten most requested styles they have encountered in their successful tenures.
