Every self-respecting beauty junkie knows the feeling. You hear or read about the latest "must-have" beauty product and suddenly you're making excuses to leave the office, the house, the bar exam to hightail it to the nearest CVS or Sephora. It's an addiction people! But hey, at least it's legal.

The bummer, as with all addictions, is the come down. And, sadly, for every Frizz Ease hair care product that hits the market there are 2,000 Body on Taps ("Body on What?" My point exactly.) So, as a result, we hard-core beauty product consumers have hit rock beauty bottom far too many times.

Which beauty products irk us most? Which products contradict their marketing materials? Which beauty products make us cry foul? To find out, we went straight to the source. TotalBeauty.com readers clued us in to which supposed beauty product "stars" really leave them jonesing for something better.

The Hype: A purported cult fave that's a "99.9% oil-free, deeply hydrating, lightweight wonder designed to smooth the complexion, while reducing the appearance of wrinkles and discoloration."

The Truth According to TotalBeauty.com Reviewers:
"It did nothing for my parched skin and has a stinky smell like sweaty socks!" says a reader. Another concurred: "I totally dislike this moisturizer! It smells awful and makes me extremely teary, even if I use it FAR away from my eyes!" Others claim that it's stinky, but insist that it works, "when you first take a whiff of this stuff, it'll probably make you want to puke. But after you get over that, this is a great moisturizer. I saw a noticeable difference within 2 weeks." And, one reader contends that it "makes my skin look fabulous and glow. Although it provides a lot of moisture, it doesn't feel too heavy. Only way to make it better would be to add SPF, and maybe do something about the smell."

Bottom Line: May offer "hope" for some if they can stand the stink.

Next: it worked on "America's Next Top Model" but what do our readers think about CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara?

The Hype: As extolled by spokesmodel Drew Barrymore, "LashBlast's patented, volume-boosting formula and patent-pending brush are designed to max-out each and every lash, leaving you with the ultimate big-lash look."

The Truth According to TotalBeauty.com Reviewers:
Readers think that the brush is way too big to handle. Says one reviewer, "After I had poked myself in the eye 3 times with the enormous wand, I finally threw it away." Another agreed "YES! That wand is dangerous and barely fits in my hand. Awkward to handle and it smells bad, too." Some are equally as miffed with the mascara itself. "It's thick, clumpy and all a mess! I threw it away after one use," exclaims one exasperated reviewer. "It is horrible and clumped my lashes. I tried it a few times and could never get them to look good," bemoans another. Still, some think it's not all bad: "Don't let the huge brush throw you off," says one, "because it's actually much easier to put on, as long as you know how to apply mascara fairly well. Plus, I love the loud orange color and huge easy-to-grip tube."

The Bottom Line: Bigger hands and a little patience may help this new mascara live up to its hype. Or not.
