Hair washing and drying is quite a chore, no? And your life is more or less ruled by when you're going to wash it, right? (Unless, of course, you have a pixie cut.) Regardless, we are all busy ladies and when we wash our hair, we expect our shampoo to clean and protect our hair color ... and for the smell to intoxicate all who are lucky enough to walk by us. We're not saying that you must spend a ton of money on hair care products to get the quality you're looking for, but what we are saying is that there is a huge difference in quality -- even among the shampoos in the drugstore aisles. And the shampoos on this list are not of high quality.
Here's a taste of our readers' testimonials -- some of their comments will make you LOL but all will encourage you to avoid these hair care products when shopping at the drugstore:
"Left my hair a tangled, almost matted mess"
"Makes my scalp more dry"
"Left my hair feeling very sticky"
"My hair doesn't feel as clean after I rinse"
"It made my hair look and feel like pubic hair"
"Left my hair feeling gross"
"Made my hair look frizzy"
"It looked as though I hadn't even showered!"
"Seemed to dry my hair out even more"
"It left my hair feeling waxy"
"Made my soft, silky hair rough"
"It was pretty difficult to get enough lather to completely get my hair clean"

TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 6.4*
Why: One woman says it "made my hair look frizzy and not moisturized. In fact, it looked like straw. I went ahead and went to work and one of my coworkers even commented on the frizz. Normally my hair is shiny even when I do the 'beachy' look on my own." Another reviewer calls the shampoo, "Tousle Me Greasy" and goes on to say, "now, it could just be my hair type because I am slightly oilier than most, but upon air drying my hair after using this shampoo my hair was frizzy, and it looked as though I hadn't even showered! The hair around my roots was heavy and almost clumpy. NOT ATTRACTIVE."

Why: One reviewer says, "I threw the Head and Shoulders out after using it twice. It smelled terrible and left my hair feeling gross. Maybe it works if you have dandruff. I won't buy it again." Another reader says, "Never use again! I used this product once and it left my hair feeling very sticky. I had to wash my hair TWICE the same day to remove the sticky feeling. NOTE: THE OTHER TWO WASHES WERE OTHER SHAMPOOS. I'm never using this again! It also made my scalp burn." Another woman says she "would not recommend" this and goes on to say, "I have tried this product several times hoping that it would work, but it only makes my scalp more dry."
TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 6.1*
Why: One reader says, "UGH. I found myself without my regular shampoo during an out-of-town visit and this was the shampoo available. Ironically, I was worried because I don't need more moisture in my hair, and it's a good thing I don't, because I surely wouldn't have gotten it from this product. It was awful. Left my hair a tangled, almost matted mess. I had to use way more conditioner than I normally would just to get a comb through my hair. I also found the fragrance sickening, but that, I suppose, is a matter of personal taste." Another woman says, "it doesn't do ANYTHING as far as moisture is concerned, it actually makes it feel dry ... might go back to Pantene after I get through the other bottle I have." One reviewer adds, "I absolutely hated this product! This shampoo left my hair dry, tangled, and matted. I have never disliked a shampoo so much after using it. I ended up using it as a body wash when I was on vacation. I would not recommend this at all!"
TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 6*
Why: Most readers weren't impressed by this shampoo. "I don't think this shampoo and conditioner did anything out of the ordinary for my hair," one reader says. Another reader says it gave her "the weirdest breakouts on my upper arms." And one women adds, "don't let the 'nature' in the name fool you. There's practically nothing natural about it ... I didn't realize it until my boyfriend started reading the ingredients."
