Hair: 1. Get the right haircut
"The most important factor in cutting and styling hair to appear thinner ... is to avoid roundness," says celebrity hair stylist Marco Pelusi of Marco Pelusi Hair Studio in West Hollywood, Calif. Steer clear of bobs and short haircuts, which accentuate roundness. Instead, create slimming angles with deep side parts, texturized ends and layered cuts like these. Your cut should softly frame your face and neck and fall between your chin and shoulder with layers starting just under your cheekbones.

Hair: 2. Fringe your bangs
"Bangs bring attention to the eyes take them off fuller areas," says Los Angeles-based celebrity hair stylist Judaysia. But blunt-cut bangs emphasize roundness so choose asymmetrical or sideswept fringe (try the technique in this bang style video) instead. Bangs that are shorter in the middle and longer on the edges with fringe falling between brows and lashes also help slim, she says. (Hint: In these bang photos, Ashlee Simpson is a do; Liv Tyler is a don't.)

Hair: 3. Lift the crown
"Styles that create lift in the crown of your head elongate the face shape and create a leaner look," says Marie Ferro of Marie's Hair Studio in Malibu, Calif. For updos, sweeping hair toward the crown of your head can direct attention away from a sagging chin line. Just remember to leave out a few face-framing pieces like these celebrities did.)

Hair: 4. Go big, but not too big
Big hair should make your face look thinner, right? Not necessarily. While height in the crown is key, avoid too much width by keeping your style narrow at the sides of your face, says Pam Kelly of Fantastic Sams salons. (If you absolutely must have or already have short hair, this will make your cut more slimming. Follow Rihanna's lead.)
