To add dimension to a new cut (especially on dark hair), ask your stylist for very subtle, all-over highlights. Here, Rona combines Miss Clairol and Clairol Professional Premium Crme for all-over "brownlites" using a technique she developed for Clairol Professional's "True Color from the Heart" in support of the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign. You can also ask for highlights to be placed around your face and at the tips of your layers only. (Watch this video to do this correctly at home.) "[The effect] feels brighter, as if the sun would have done it," Rona says. The best part for low-maintenance types: Subtle highlights like these only need to be touched up around the hairline every few months.

Step Three: Have Your Brows Shaped
The single most important feature on your face is your brows. (See what a difference they make on these celebrities.) Robert recommends leaving brows on the fuller side and scheduling a brow appointment. ("Overgrown brows are easier to work with ... [and] more beautiful.") To maintain the shape, tweeze stray hairs below your brow line and in the center of your brows only. "Keeping them close together is important to make your arches appear higher," he says. Fill them in lightly with a brow pencil for definition.

Step Four: Highlight Your Eye Color
Add more oomph to your makeup routine with a jewel-toned eye. (Find the right tone for your eye color here.) A dramatic purple smoky eye like the one Robert applied on Linda can play up brown eyes (try a shimmery purple loose eye shadow like Benefit Lust Duster in Pink Royalty, $18). Tip: "Do your eye makeup before you do your face so you can clean up the mess afterward with a cloth or tissue," Robert says.

Step Five: Try a Bright Pink Lip
Contrary to conventional wisdom, you can pair a smoky eye with a bright lip color (like Make Up For Ever Glossy Full Couleur in Fuchsia Pink, $19). Just apply a clear gloss over it and blend to "sheer it up," Robert says. (To find the best shade for your lips, take this quiz.) Finish with a sheer luminescent pink blush (not too much!) and mascara.
