This quasi-futuristic look is all the rage on the red carpet and runways, but it's something we can easily do at home too. Just try a shimmery or matte silver polish for a modern look. Bonus: metallic shades act like neutrals so they won't clash with what you're wearing.

The trend: Messy braid
Braids are a hot alternative to a bun or ponytail, but to make it look modern (and not Pippi Longstocking-like) keep your hair on top loose and mess up the braid slightly with your hands to it's not too tight.

The trend: Different-hued smoky eyes
Sure, you could do a smoky eye in basic black (Scherzinger certainly proves it's a hot look), but for a funkier twist try it in another shade like blue or silver like Riley did. It's still sexy but more fun than black. Plus, the lighter shades make this look more wearable for day.

Daniela Ruah
The trend: Soft curls
You don't see a lot of natural curls on the red carpet, which is a shame since Ruah proves it's a beautiful look. Use a curl defining cream (like Badass Hair Phat Curl Defining and Thickening Cream, $28) to keep them looking soft and not crunchy and touch up your curls with a curling iron (or use an iron on your whole head if you have straight hair naturally) for more definition.
We love award shows for many different reasons. Some, like the Oscars, are fun to watch for the over-the-top red carpet looks. And others, like the MTV awards, are a trip to view with all the wacky and funky styles. However, few of the looks from either show can be worn to the grocery store or even to work or a cocktail party, right? That's why another one of our favorites is the People's Choice Awards. This year they went a bit more casual and the result was celebrities with fun -- and very wearable -- looks.
Click through this gallery to see the trends we spotted on the red carpet at the People's Choice Awards. All of them are things you can try in your everyday life, whether it's a new makeup technique suitable for work or a fun updo for your next Saturday night out.
So who was a trendsetter at this year's awards? Well, all the celebrities looked fabulous (we couldn't find a "worst" in the bunch!), but our favorites were Carrie Underwood, Sandra Bullock, Nicole Scherzinger, Olivia Wilde, Diane Kruger, Taraji P. Henson, Katie Cassidy, Amber Riley, Daniela Ruah, Dania Ramirez, Alyson Hannigan, and Dianna Agron. Check them out now!
