The Treatment: Cedars Massage, 50 min. $145
This soothing balancing massage incorporates aromatherapy using fresh native cedar, an herb used by Native Americans to purify and protect.
The DIY version: Spa Manager Shannan Roeh says that a cedar's clean, purifying scent can be enjoyed at home in the bath or shower using Aspira's signature cedar sage soap. (Try Plantlife Cedar Sage 100% Pure & Natural Aromatherapy Herbal Soap $4.95.) "Enjoy a hot bath or warm steamy shower and breathe deeply as the clean fresh fragrance of the cedar is released in the space around you," she says. She suggests you also, "add cedar-infused essential oil (like Aura Cacia, Texas Cedarwood, $3), which boasts many health benefits, to the bath water to further enhance your experience."
The Treatment: Customized Holistic Facial, $210
Beginning with a facial assessment to determine your skin type, a therapist selects products to create a facial experience tailor-made to your skin's needs.
The DIY version: While it's not the same as having someone do it to you, Spa Director Osa Mallo says that their facial is easy to recreate at home. Here's how:
Step 1: Cleanse your skin using a hydrating cleanser that won't over dry.
Step 2: Tone your skin with a refreshing toner that will finalize the cleansing and prepare your skin for the next stage.
Step 3: Exfoliate (once a week for oily, twice for dry skin) using a gentle exfoliant to assist in removing dead skin cells, revealing a more radiant glow.
Step 4: Remove the exfoliant with a damp hot towel and, depending on your needs, follow by applying either a hydrating or firming mask. Leave it on for about 20 minutes (she recommends enjoying one of the three Mandarin Oriental's 'Oriental Wisdom', $20 spa CDs in the meantime).
Step 5: Remove the mask with a damp warm towel and gently massage in a great hydrating moisturizer using an upward motion.
Step 6: Find a good eye cream and, for best results, apply it in a circular motion using your ring finger. The spa recommends Beauty by Clinica Ivo Pitanguy PreVious Eye Contour Lifting Gel, $170 (call 305-913-8332), because "it reduces dark circles and puffiness while treating fine lines and wrinkles."
The Treatment: The Signature Massage, 60/90 min. $175/245
A unique massage experience using heated grain and herb-filled wraps that are placed on key tension areas and major muscle groups to induce deep relaxation and increase the therapeutic benefits of the therapist's massage strokes. Results include relief of muscle tension, increased circulation and a relaxed, nurtured feeling.
The DIY version: The spa director jokes that although guests can't "pack the massage therapists as part of this at-home treatment, they can easily fit any of our Relax & Dream DreamTime Warm Embrace Body Wraps, $38 (call 843-768-6340), into their luggage." She recommends heating the wrap (in the microwave) and applying it to "key tension areas and major muscle groups to induce deep relaxation."
The Treatment: Whipped Cocoa Bath, 15 min. $45
Settle into a foaming chocolate milk bath for a soothing and softening signature Hershey experience.
The DIY version: To recreate the bath at home, you'll need:
1/8 cup Hershey's unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup instant non-fat dry milk
1/2 cup The Spa at Hershey Whipped Cocoa Bath, Chocolate Spa online shop $20.
Method: Add cocoa powder and dry milk powder while the tub is filling then add the Whipped Cocoa Bath (if you have a whirlpool tub, turn it on). *Note: If you don't have Whipped Cocoa Bath use any unscented bubble bath that won't compete with the aroma of the cocoa powder.
The Treatment: Fire, Water and Light, 80 min. $275
The signature treatment blends the natural elements of The Spa -- fire, rock, water and light -- into one luxurious experience and includes indulgences such as a softening soak, a full-body exfoliation, Vichy waterfall massage, healing body masque and a relaxing massage.
The DIY version: To recreate this blissful treatment at home, follow these steps from the spa's director.
Step 1: Begin in your shower by exfoliating your body with the Epicuren Old World Salt Scrub, $29 (at the spa).
Step 2: Fill your tub with warm water and add a few drops of Grove Park Inn Spa All Natural Relaxing Lavender Shower Gel, $25. Slide in and let the lavender essential oil soften your skin and drift you into deep relaxation.
Step 3: After soaking for 10-20 minutes, wrap up in a towel and prepare your soothing facial mask. Blend together a nickel-sized amount of Epicuren Volcanic Clay Purifying Mask, $14 and Epicuren Aloe Vera Calming Gel, $29. Apply a thin layer to your face. Allow to dry, then rinse with warm water and a damp cloth.
Step 4: Remove your towel and mist your face and body with the Epicuren Sandalwood Protein Mist, $22. This highly active enzyme solution works as a toner and hydrator for the face and body.
Step 5: Finally, seal moisture into your skin by applying the Epicuren Sandalwood After Bath Lotion, $68.
