The Beach Waves Technique: Flat Iron + Braids
The Products:
Flat Iron

The How-To: "One of my favorite techniques is to braid your dry hair and hit the flat iron over it a few times," says Townsend. "If you let the hair cool before releasing the plait, you will have seriously sexy beach bends." Image Source

The Beach Waves Technique: The Beachwaver
The Products:
Beachwaver Curling Iron

The How-To: For beachy waves that look a little more "done," try celebrity stylist Sarah Potempa's cult-favorite Beachwaver. Start with unwashed hair. Using the Beachwaver S.75, $129, curl small sections of your hair away from your face to keep the pattern uniform. Once your curls have cooled, use your fingers to break them up. This gives them definition and texture without looking disheveled. Bonus: Wake up the next morning and go. Second-day Beachwaver hair is a little bit looser and more disheveled -- like you just got back from the beach.

The Beach Waves Technique: Overnight Twists
The Products:
Bobby Pins
Lightweight Hair Spray

The How-To: Divide your hair into two even sections along your part. Tightly twist one section from roots to ends, then pin the end to the crown of your head. Repeat on the other side. Sleep on it, take the twists out in the morning, and add a light hairspray for hold.

The Beach Waves Technique: Headband Waves
The Products:
Cotton Headband
Beach Spray
Texture Paste

The How-To: Start with dry hair. Place the headband around your head and over your hair. Get your hair slightly damp, then divide your hair into two sections on either side of your head. Twist it and wrap it around the base of the headband. Repeat on the other side. When it's dry, use a bit of texturizing paste to give it a beachy look.

The Beach Waves Technique: Use Setting Clips
The Products:
Setting Clips
Setting Spray
Tissue Paper

The How-To: Air dry your hair until it's about 85 percent dry, then mist with a setting spray. Place the setting clips to create an "S" pattern in your hair. (Use the tissue paper between the clip and your hair to prevent creases.) Once your hair is dry, take out the clips and mist with hairspray.
