Fuss-free hair was the theme of the night. Sofia Vergara, Taissa Farmiga and Julia Roberts all braved the heat with artfully tousled hair parted down the middle. The end result: a sexy, windswept look that balanced out the formality of their red carpet gowns.

To get Vergara's extra smooth blowout, take a cue from celeb hair guru Kylee Heath. After blow drying two-inch sections of Vergara's hair, she pinned each one in place, allowing all the sections to cool before going over them with a boar bristle brush for a frizz-free finish.

What goes better with a red carpet than a red evening gown? Red lips. While the majority of celebrities went with nude lips in a barely-there tint, January Jones, Christina Hendricks and Claire Danes turned up the heat with bold, red statement lips perfectly matched to their designer gowns in the same shade.

Makeup artist Rachel Goodwin painted Jones' lips with Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Coromandel, $35. To get Danes' glossy look, Goodwin lined her lips with Chanel Precision Lip Definer in Rouge Profond, $29, filled them in with Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in La Flamboyante (available October 2014), $35, and topped it off with Chanel Rouge Allure Pure Shine Intense Colour Lip Gloss in Pirate (available November 2014), $32. For Hendricks' stunning stain, Vanessa Scali used her fingers to apply Pur Minerals Chateau de Vine Mineral Lipstick in Starlet, $18, followed by a layer of Pur Minerals Lip Gloss Stick in Daredevil, $16, to make the lip color really pop.

Summer is still going strong and the bevy of beachy blonde waves on the red carpet was proof. Anna Gunn, Amy Poehler and Heidi Klum embraced the sunny weather by choosing casual, textured waves to pair with their evening gowns.

Nearly every attendee was wearing a nude lip, but we especially loved the mauve-tinted versions that were paired with heavily lined lids. Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett and Michelle Dockery all looked in amazing in the lip and eye combo with drastically different hairstyles and outfits, proving this makeup look is for keeps.

Makeup artist Melanie Inglessis skipped the shadow and enlisted the help of two eyeliners, a black kohl and dark grey, to define Paulson's eyes. To create a natural lip, Inglessis applied Burt's Bees Lip Crayon in Niagara Overlook, $9, (and threw it in Paulson's bag as she headed out the door).

To create Dockery's subtle cat eye, Jordan Long lined eyes with Giorgio Armani Eye & Brow Maestro #1 using a small pointed liner brush. For Dockery's gorgeous glossy lip, Long lined and filled in the lip with Giorgio Armani Smooth Silk Lip Pencil in #1, $30, and topped it off with Giorgio Armani Flash Lacquer in #106, $30.

The dramatic side parts we saw during Fashion Week have officially made their way to the red carpet. Lizzy Caplan, Kiernan Shipka and Jessica Paré all highlighted their makeup looks with slicked-to-the-side updos.

To banish flyaways, stylist Marcus Francis applied Suave Professionals Natural Infusion All Day Body Leave-In Foam with Seaweed, $5.79, to Caplan's damp hair, then blow dried with a round brush to lock in the smoothness. Hairstylist Bridget Brager relied on a small dab of Garnier De-Constructed Pixie Play, $3.99, to smooth Shipka's bangs and set them in place for the entire night.
