The Best Beauty Looks From the 2014 Met Gala

From Sarah Jessica Parker's mega updo to Joan Smalls' statement lip and more

Lupita Nyong'o's Violet Liner
Okay, so her dress was a little flapper-meets-fisherman, but the colored liner look was right on trend. For balance, the Lancôme spokesperson paired it with a nude lip. We love that it's daring and wearable at the same time.

Karlie Kloss' Smoky Eye
The graphic eye turned high society when the supermodel paired it with a black and gold Oscar de la Renta gown and black evening gloves.

Working with Marc Jacobs Beauty, Brigitte Reiss-Andersen created Kloss' look by applying Marc Jacobs Beauty Genius Gel Supercharged Foundation for a clean and luminous complexion. To highlight her killer cheekbones, Reiss-Andersen applied Shameless Bold Blush in Obsessed on the apples of the cheeks before focusing on the eyes.

For the bold eye, Reiss-Andersen lined Kloss's rims with the liquid Magic Marc'er Precision Pen and the Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in Blacquer, while using neutral shadows from Style Eye-Con No. 7 Plush Shadow in The Lolita across the eye lids. Several coats of Lash Lifter Gel Volume Mascara and a light nude lip with Lovemarc Lip Gel in Moody Margot finished off the look.

Suki Waterhouse's Classic Beauty
Wearing a blush and nude tulle Burberry gown, the British model (and GF of co-chair Bradley Cooper) was stunning. Her red lip and loose updo combo was fresh and elegant, and something we can't wait to copy.

Joan Smalls' Bold Lip
Smalls added major drama to her strapless nude Vera Wang by pairing it with the biggest beauty risk we saw all night: an electric purple lip.

To get the look, makeup artist Sir John is said to have mixed Estée Lauder navy eyeliner with pink and magenta lipsticks for a completely customized (and completely awesome) purple lip. Sure, it was a little punk (last year's theme), but we thought the statement lip looked modern and cool alongside her otherwise clean makeup and fishtail braid.

Every spring, the fashion world anxiously awaits the kickoff fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's fashion exhibit. It's notoriously a red carpet where Hollywood and society A-listers take some risks, and the 2014 Met Gala was no exception.

This year's event was inspired by fashion designer Charles James, whom the Anna Wintour Costume Center chose to honor with the "Charles James: Beyond Fashion" exhibit. While the gala may have disappointed in terms of fashion (did no one do their research on James' structural gowns?), there were plenty of glam hair and makeup looks to choose from.

Here are our most exhibit-worthy beauty picks from the 2014 Met Gala.
