Better Home Gadgets for Facials

Many of us who previously swore by monthly facials have had to rethink our routine in light of Covid and thanks to effective, high-tech (but easy-to-use) gadgets like Dr. Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite FaceWare Pro, $435, and Joanna Vargas Magic Glow Wand, $285, that's become increasingly easy. Expect more innovations to make the at-home facial experience more effective than ever before.

Minority Owned Beauty Takes Center Stage

Brand stories will become more important in 2021. Anticipate seeing more stores and e-commerce sites highlighting brand founders with a focus on minority-owned businesses. This will also be pushed forward thanks to a number of initiatives putting money towards black-owned businesses by power players like Glossier. Sephora also recently announced that their women's mentorship and funding program, Accelerate, will focus on black-founded brands in 2021.

Clean Beauty Will Become More Affordable

Just as consumers will become increasingly conscious about the team and founders behind the beauty brands they're shopping, they will focus more so than ever on the ingredients in their products. And in 2021, they'll actually be able to act on their newfound knowledge because clean beauty will become increasingly affordable. There is no taking away from pioneering brands like Kora Organics and Kjaer Weis, but the price points can be intimidating. Expect to see frugal-priced brands like Love Beauty and Planet taking center stage at retailers like Target and Ulta.

Specially Designed Masks Keep Maskne at Bay

Masks aren't going away anytime soon — even with a vaccine around the corner. In 2021 more brands will come out with masks made out of special fabrics to not only protect from Covid but protect skin from maskne and other skincare woes. Slip, for example, has already launched a reusable mask made from 100% silk on both sides with non-toxic dyes and a 100% cotton inner layer, designed specifically to be gentle on skin. Dr. Barbara Sturm has her own mask made from an antimicrobial, anti-friction, nano-silver infused fabric that has also been shown to have antibacterial benefits for the skin. Beauty, fashion and function also meet in the Tata Harper X Jonathan Simkhai Silk Mask Pack, $68.

Eco-Friendly More Important Than Ever

From powering stores, distribution centers, plants and offices with renewable energy to diverting waste from landfills to cutting down on packaging, 2021 will see eco-friendly agendas becoming top priority. In tandem with that we'll be seeing more and more bar products, which require zero packaging (think everything from shampoo to lotion) thanks to brands like Ethique who are paving the way for this trend.
