Can your makeup stand the heat? Here are all the products you need to avoid a summertime meltdown

Rethink your makeup
No matter what the labels may claim, not all makeup is made for year-round use. Just like you swap out your boots for sandals and jeans for maxi skirts, so must your beauty bag get a seasonal overhaul come summer.
Warmer weather means creams and waterproof formulas, not heavy foundation and powder blush. It's the only way to get a truly flawless look with no streaks, smudges, or smears.
Don't worry, this change isn't a dramatic one. You won't leave the drugstore with your hands filled with large bags, cringing from credit card usage. In fact, you might already have most of these items stashed away under your bathroom sink. Even if you don't, these essentials are definitely reasonable investments -- not a silly, trend splurge.
To be sure we hit every essential on the summer must-have list, we chatted with celebrity makeup artist Tina Turnbow on the top items that create a flawless summer face. Click on to be sure you have all six.

Get seriously smooth skin
There's nothing like a little peach fuzz (or darker hairs) to take away from perfect makeup. To the rescue: Veet Ready-to-Use Wax Strips for Bikini, Underarm and Face, $6. They're mess-free and super effective when it comes to removing hair on sensitive areas of the face.

Primer
No matter what moisturizer, foundation, concealer, or powder is going on your face, nothing is more essential in summertime than primer. "It makes everything stay put for hours and can prevent you from looking too shiny," says Turnbow. Basically, it is the glue that holds everything together. But unlike paste, these beauty formulas are silky smooth and incredibly light on your complexion. Plus, for those of you who like to skip steps, most primers come with SPF and anti-aging ingredients too.

Tinted moisturizer or BB cream
No need to slather on a thick formula, instead opt for a light tinted moisturizer or BB cream that will blend right into your complexion (still camouflaging blemishes!). "It helps even out the skin tone especially when the heat can make you look extra flushed," says Turnbow. Also, when you start to sweat, er, glow, the tinted layer won't noticeably melt down your chin like ice cream in July.

Waterproof mascara and liner
One of the first things you should do to prep for summer is swap out your mascara and liner for a waterproof alternative. Luckily most brands have just that, so you won't even have to abandon your beloved favorite. Or if you absolutely can't go without your go-to mascara, swipe one to two coats of a water-proof one over the original to seal it. "Also, to be safe I recommend keeping the liner on the top lid only (to skip the dreaded under eye smear) and be careful putting mascara on bottom lashes as that could also create dark circles," suggests Turnbow.
