Our editors switched their go-to beauty products with argan oil for a week. Here's what happened

Argan Oil Use: Deep Conditioner
Jessica Amaris, editorial assistant

The claim: Contains nutrients, like vitamin E and fatty acids, that help restore moisture to hair strands and even claims to boost hair growth.

What we did: Applied three times throughout the week and left on over night.

How it worked: "I've religiously used oils in my hair forever. So I can say I was actually pretty shocked when my hair didn't seem any more nourished than it was before I used the argan oil as a deep conditioner. The next day, my ends were slightly more hydrated, but they still had that dry, straw-like texture. I actually prefer to leave the oil in my hair as a serum instead -- works way better."

The claim: Nourishes lips with vitamin E and fatty acids.

What we did: Applied to lips before bed.

How it worked: "At first I put this on during the day and it was honestly, kind of gross. I felt like I couldn't eat or drink anything without it leaving behind a slimy mess. So, I switched to nighttime and put it on before I went to bed because it was much more practical -- and turned out much better.

It felt weird because it wasn't as substantial as my other lip oil, so it felt more slippery and less hydrating. I started putting it on while I would read, and then blotting it right before I went to bed so it wouldn't leave a giant mess allover my pillow (it took a while to sink in). It made my lips soft, though. I wouldn't trade my Hourglass lip oil for it, however. Though it does seem like a solid option if you have it on hand."

The claim: Argan oil's nourishing properties, like vitamin E, help soothe and hydrate cuticles.

What we did: Applied to cuticles at bedtime.

How It Worked: "With the cold winter weather, my cuticles had been peeling but this argan oil seemed to provide some nourishing relief. After a few days of applying the oil at bedtime, my cuticles didn't seem as dry. I wouldn't say it completely rid my cuticles of the drying effects of winter weather but it definitely helped. I did find the greasy texture of the product a bit annoying, as I couldn't really do anything with my hands -- like check my phone one last time before going to bed -- after slathering on the product."

The claim: Soothes fly-aways and static hair with a single dime-size drop.

What we did: Applied dime-size amount to hair once a day.

How it worked: "Technically this does tamp down frizz. Problem is, it also made my hair look hella greasy. Because the oil is so thick, it's a lot and harder to work through hair than the superlight smoothing serums you can buy, and it seemed to weigh down my hair, leaving it looking flat. I wouldn't use this to fight frizz unless I was really in a pinch."

The claim: Argan oil contains anti-aging properties, like vitamin E, and is a natural moisturizer.

What we did: Patted a dime size amount into dry skin after cleansing, morning and night.

How it worked: "If your skin is superdry like mine, this works very nicely. It locks in moisture, but doesn't seem to clog pores or cause or worsen breakouts (I was testing this with a couple blemishes around my nose and chin). The oil doesn't absorb instantly, but does so within a few minutes and doesn't feel too greasy or heavy. I definitely prefer this as a face oil, as opposed to a hair oil."
