If it always seems like there's another weird phrase that's crept onto the beauty scene, it's because there is. Sometimes it's a different phrase that means virtually the same thing as another, sometimes it's an old phrase that's been catapulted back from the past, and sometimes it's a completely fresh term born out of a new trend, service or ingredient. So you're fully caught up with today's beauty lingo, we're breaking down seven of the most notable beauty buzzwords.

Given the cutesy name, you might have guessed that the phrase "cloudless skin" comes straight from South Korea. That guess would be correct. The phrase is more aspirational than anything and refers to flawless skin that's free of blemishes, hyperpigmentation, dry patches and large pores. Unlike its very similar predecessor terms — such as glass skin and honey skin — cloudless skin focuses more on creating healthy skin via nutrition and a skin care routine to which you are devout. Give it a go with Glow Recipe's curated Cloudless Skin Kit, $165.

Believe it or not, glass hair, as cutesy as it sounds, does not hail from the land of South Korea. Instead, it was coined right here in the USA and refers to the polished, '90s-era symmetrical bob that countless celebrities are sporting right now (Exhibit A: Lucy Hale, Olivia Culpo, Jourdan Dunn). It's not just about the cut, though, it's also about how the cut is styled: pin straight, super glossy, nearly reflective and not a flyaway in sight. It's definitely not a low-maintenance look.

In case you missed it, one of the trendiest skin care treatments of the moment is the Hydrafacial, which celebrities, beauty editors and everyday people are madly obsessed with right now. The zero-downtime, 30-minute facial — which you can get at spas and clinics around the country — involves sucking the gunk out of your pores with a skin-approved vacuum, then replenishing your pores with a hydrating serum. A similar treatment is the Dermalinfusion facial, which we tested out (should you want to be simultaneously delighted and horrified).

There are a few things you need to know about adaptogens. First, that they've been around for quite a while but are regaining momentum thanks to the natural/organic skin care movement. Second, the term "adaptogen" is pretty self-explanatory. It essentially refers to a natural herb or mushroom — such as reiki, ginseng or ashwagandha — that helps the skin adapt to stressors in the environment. Think of them as an additional way to treat and protect your skin from pollutants, UV rays and internal stress. Give it a try with Youth to the People's Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream, $58.
