What it does: You know what they say: Never ask a girl with winged eyeliner why she's late. If you want to look good, heck, even if you want to look like you don't care if you look good, it's going to take a whole lot of time. Enter: Priv, the Uber of the beauty world. The on-demand beauty app brings hair stylists, makeup artists, masseuses, personal trainers and nail technicians to your door. The same-day service lets you and two friends get your makeup done before a big night out for $200, tax and tip included, all while sipping on pre-game cocktails. By taking out travel time, parking and numerous cat eye redos, you're shaving a whole lot of precious time off your getting-ready routine. While it's currently only available in Los Angeles, NYC, the Hamptons, Austin, Orange County and London, Priv is looking to expand to other major metropolitan cities.
Cost: The app is free to download, with services costing about what they would in a higher-end salon or spa.
Since the arrival of smartphones, apps have been changing the way we conduct our lives. What once called for stationery now uses an Evite. What used to require lugging around a lighting kit and bulky camera now just takes a simple Instagram filter. And while some apps are for fun or killing time (Candy Crush, I just can't quit you), others aim to turn your life into one never-ending New Year's resolution by encouraging you to be the best version of yourself. In the past, only Hollywood's elite could afford a dream team of people devoted to unearthing a better you, but now your smart phone contains every therapist, personal trainer, nutritionist, stylist and life coach you'll ever need to become your best self.
