I usually reach for dry shampoo sprays but I figured I might as well give a different type of formula a try — in the name of journalism, of course. The reason why I've stayed away from powders in the past is because I've been nervous that they'll be messy and leave me with noticeable white streaks in my dark brown hair. Luckily, I didn't experience that when using this dry shampoo, which features diatomaceous earth (a mineral compound that absorbs oil and adds texture), jojoba seed oil (which conditions and pumps up shine) and burdock root extract (which helps remove flakes). I sprayed the powder right onto my roots after a fun Restaurant Week dinner with friends and massaged it in until I couldn't see it anymore. The ends of my hair started to get even curlier on Tuesday and this dry shampoo helped enhance my hair's texture. It was a little bit messy, but I mostly chalk that up to my inexperience using powder dry shampoo.
Midway through my dry shampoo challenge, I have to admit that I was feeling ready to wash my hair. During the winter especially, my scalp gets itchy and flaky and I couldn't help but pick at the buildup that had accumulated over the last few days. I still had four more days of using dry shampoo to go, though, so I reached for this one, which eliminates oil at the roots. I love that it didn't leave any white residue in my hair and the smell wasn't overpowering. My hair felt light and bouncy, and I couldn't believe that I hadn't washed my hair since Saturday!
Only three more days to go now! On Wednesday night, I attended a press preview for Marc Anthony, where I learned about the brand's foam dry shampoo. Foam? Sign me up! I had never used this kind of dry shampoo before but the timing was perfect since I was nearing the end of my seven-day experiment. I brought a bottle home with me and got to work on Thursday's post-indoor-cycling-class hair. I was seriously sweaty and my hair was in need of a reboot. I dispensed an egg-sized blob of foam into my hands and worked it through my hair, focusing on my roots. The foam dried almost instantly and my hair looked and felt like I had just washed it, plus I noticed some extra volume, too.
Ah, so close to the end now. I decided to be fancy to celebrate the end of the work week with this dry shampoo. Oribe's product scent transports me back to my first beauty internship (way back in 2008) when I first tried the brand's products. It instantly brings me to a happy place! The powders in the formula zapped the grease accumulating on my scalp and also helped calm my scalp, which was continuing to feel itchy the longer I went without washing it. I couldn't help but sniff my hair throughout the day to get a whiff of that iconic Oribe fragrance.
I had such good luck with the foam dry shampoo I used earlier in the week that I wanted to give another one a whirl. On the last day, I used this dry shampoo (created by none other than the Kardashians' personal hairstylist, Jen Atkins) before heading out to watch my college basketball team play. The game was intense, but my team won, and my hair looked pretty darn good while they took care of business on the court. I applied the foam to my hair in the morning, then put it up in a ponytail. When I let my hair down later on that day, it had texture and volume with no oiliness and it felt soft.
