"I love and always recommend Shu's delicate cleansing oil shampoo and conditioner for my redheads," says Lucille Javier, hair colorist at Sally Hershberger Salon in New York City. Need an extra jolt of red? Here's the secret, according to celebrity hair colorist Beth Minardi, who works at Warren Tricomi Salon in New York City: After every fourth shampoo, condition and refresh your tone with this color-boosting product in copper or red, depending on your shade. Rachel Bodt, master colorist at Mynd Spa & Salon, also likes this product thanks to its versatility. "One of the best things a redhead can do is to have your colorist make a customized color conditioner that you can use in between services to keep red hair from looking faded and dull," says Bodt. "I love this conditioner because you can make them custom for each client."
New York City-based celebrity hairstylist Marshall Lin explains that red pigment doesn't last long (while this is true of natural redheads, it's especially a problem for those who dye their hair). "That's why moisturizing and color protection are extremely important when choosing hair care products," he says. His fave product to moisturize and protect color is this oil-free serum, which can be applied to wet or dry hair. "It keeps the hair extremely hydrated, healthy, and strong," says Lin. "By keeping your hair hydrated, your tone will last much longer, and appear shiny and beautiful."
