Sonia Kashuk's gorgeous new (budget-friendly!) brush set, an amazing BB primer from bareMinerals and more must-buy new beauty products launching in March
Thanks to over-plucking during my high school years, I'm cursed with brows that will not grow. All the brow potions and serums in the world can't get more than a couple measly hairs to appear. Since full arches are everything these days, I've turned to pencil to bridge the gap between my brows and Cara Delevingne's. While most pencils look too obvious (especially when you have a lot of filling in to do, like I do), the Dolce & Gabbanna Shaping Eyebrow Pencil is absolutely magic. The colors look natural, the angled edge lets you draw hair-like strokes and it doesn't smudge during the day. Don't be scared by the price tag -- not only is it a stellar pencil, it also lasts for months and months.
A dream hair product would be one that does everything: volumizes, helps your style last, gives you tons of texture and movement -- the list goes on. And that's exactly what super-star hairstylist Sally Hershberger set out to create when she developed this 3-in-1 spray. It's one part dry shampoo, one part texturizing spray, one part hairspray. Just think about how much more room you'll have in your bathroom.
As a child, I was obsessed with Aussie 3 Minute Miracle. I would swipe it from my mom's shower and dump half a bottle onto my wild, curly hair. I just loved how soft and manageable my hair was after using it. As an adult, my hair has gotten finer (sad), so I moved on from 3 Minute Miracle because I thought it would be too heavy. Decades later, it's back in my shower. The new collection includes customized treatments for different hair types and concerns -- Moist, Strong, Smooth, Color and Shine. (The Shine version is light enough for me.) The best part? My hair is just as silky as I remember.
If I could eat one food for the rest of my life (without suffering from malnutrition) it would be truffle something. Truffle popcorn. Truffle pasta. Truffle fries. I just love truffles. Clearly, this serum had me at the word truffle. While I'm not generally keen on putting my favorite food on my face, it turns out that truffle enzyme is a powerful antioxidant. And this silky serum is packed with other ingredients like rosehip and hibiscus extracts to fight wrinkles and moisturize. The scent is vaguely earthy -- but not so truffle-y that it makes me hungry.
A good mascara is hard to find, and Forever 21 would be the last place I'd think to look. But not anymore. The new Premium Cosmetics Collection is packed with gorgeous colors, fantastic formulas and really cool packaging. Any then there's this mascara, which gives you thick, glossy, long lashes without ever flaking. It's a winner.
Since it's March, I could fill this story with the best spring makeup launches, but then I remembered that it's still frigid and snowing in NYC (and many other parts of the country, too). So instead of pretty palettes, I chose products that help me beat the end-of-winter blues. A throwback hair conditioner, the world's best brow pencil, a luxurious truffle-infused serum … the list goes on.
Sure, these are the best new beauty products launching in March 2014, but they're also simple pleasures -- small ways to make your everyday routine easier and more glamorous. Take Sonia Kashuk's new limited edition brush set, for example. It's so beautiful that when it hits Target on March 8, I know it's going to sell out faster than Peter Pilotto.
So use this list to write up your own beauty shopping list. Not only will you love these products, they'll help you survive the last weeks of winter with a smile, softer hair and glowing skin.
