Here's How to Properly Care for Newly-Bleached Hair

Damage is inevitable when bleaching hair. Here's how you can nourish it back to health

Wash your hair less
Shampoo can often overstrip your hair's natural oils and since your bleached hair is already extremely dry, washing it with shampoo often may result in a brittle texture and split ends. Try washing your hair three times a week or less. It's also important to switch to a sulfate-free and moisture-rich shampoo and conditioner so every wash is gentle and hydrating for your hair.

Dry gently
Your bleached hair is extra vulnerable when wet. If you're not careful, it's when you'll experience a lot of breakage, so try to avoid rubbing your hair with a towel. If you have time, let it air dry and don't brush it until it's fully dry. Also, ditch your regular hairbrush and opt to use a wide-tooth comb or a special brush designed for wet hair. Microfiber turbans are also good for gently drying your hair, minus unwanted friction or heat damage.

Use dry shampoo
Not all of us can stand to skip shampoo days. Luckily, you don't have to suffer from icky hair: Just use a quality dry shampoo that will revive your style.

Add some shine
The bleaching process can also take away your shine. So, bring back its life by using a leave-in shine treatment that can also act as a conditioner. You can use these both on days when you've washed your hair or when you opted to use a dry shampoo.

Indulge on weekly treatments
Because your hair is extremely damaged, it's basically a must to indulge in a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week. You can go to a salon for a professional treatment, but it's also important that you still have a hair mask incorporated in your at-home hair care routine. Apply the mask to your damp hair, cover it with a shower cap, and leave it for about 20 minutes before rinsing.
