We often consider our hairstylists close confidants. But are there things they aren't telling us? Yes! While some tips might be easier to share, like how to best shampoo locks, others are a bit more sensitive. Like when a client has Shirley Temple hair and can't understand why she's not able to transition to Gwyneth Paltrow straight strands with ease.

Keep reading for a look at the hair mistakes and no-nos celebrity hairstylists wish clients would cut out.

Not Shampooing Correctly

"The first and the most common mistake almost everyone makes is that when they shampoo their hair, they shampoo the shaft instead of their scalp. Also, always remember don't keep adding shampoo for the lather because when it lathers it's already too clean and can lead to hair getting too dry and more split ends and breakage over time." -Arsen Gurgov, celebrity hairstylist and owner of Arsen Gurgov Salon

Not Eating the Right Things

"People don't usually think about eating to keep their hair healthy. Oats, avocado, broccoli, sweet potatoes, peanut butter, chia seeds, barley and lentils are all great for boosting hair health." -Arsen Gurgov

Embracing Trends

"People often go with trends instead of thinking about what is right for their own look, especially when it comes to long hair. The best and essential solution to keep your hair long and healthy is to get a right haircut and right shape. If the haircut and shape are not right you will be forced to keep cutting it, which will defeat the whole purpose of beautiful, healthy long hair. It's helpful to look for inspiration that has a similar hair texture." -Arsen Gurgov

Skipping Trims

"One of the biggest mistakes I see clients make is not coming in often enough to get their hair trimmed. Just lightly 'dusted,' as I like to call it. Most people don't realize that when your hair splits, it doesn't just split and continue to grow. It will continue to break off and split again faster than it's growing. Trim your hair every six to eight weeks if you're trying to get your hair to grow healthy, long and strong. Waiting longer can have the opposite effect that you're looking for." -Cody Renegar, celebrity hairstylist
