The Cutest Workout Clothes That Aren't Lululemon

8 under-the-radar activewear brands you need to know about, pronto

For the Woman Who Hits Up Barneys After Barre
The Brand: Vie Active

Stand out from the swarms of women in Lululemon at your next barre class with Vie Active.

The high-performance Australian brand just launched in the U.S., and features compression fabrics in amazing prints (think: snow leopard and lava) that keep everything locked and loaded while you're pulsing. They also reportedly help speed muscle recovery time. But what really caught our eye was the Merino Wool Tank, $85. Yes, you read that correctly. Wool. Though it may sound stuffy and scratchy, merino wool is a dream to work out in. It is, hands down, the coolest fabric to sweat in, thanks to its incredible breathability and temperature regulation ability. The fibers help wick away moisture and keep you stink-free for longer.

For Getting Your Om On, Hipster Style
The Brand: Phat Buddha

We love that these Jane Shimmer Capri Pants, $69, are unapologetically sparkly, but if you would prefer your workout apparel sans glitter, Phat Buddha also makes yoga shorts, tanks, pants and sports bras in an array of colors and prints (think American Apparel for the Bikram set). The founder, Alissa Benishai, also customizes many Phat Buddha pieces for well-known studios like Barry's Bootcamp and Tracey Anderson.

For the Woman Who Thinks Endorphins Feel Better Outdoors
The Brand: Lucy Activewear

Hailing from Portland, Oregon, this activewear brand features cute, functional styles in three fits: relaxed, body-skimming and body-hugging.

The brand's Pocket Capri Legging, $79, comes in a blue, space-dyed hue made out of stretchy, supportive, sweat-wicking fabric that works just as well for cardio days as it does for child's pose. Bonus: functional pockets that let you tote your phone, cash or keys.

For Yogis Who Crave a Sleek Silhouette
The Brand: Alo

Alo Yoga clothing features ultra-slimming fabrics road-tested by yoga devotees to ensure ultimate comfort. The result: patent-pending leggings that slim, flatten and lift.

If you prefer to do you asanas in something less form-fitting, the Raya Draped Back Top, $52, looks like your basic tank from the front, but the back is an exaggerated racerback that shows off your cute sports bra (which the Los Angeles-based brand also has plenty of).

For Riding Your Citi Bike From Class to Brunch
The Brand: Nesh NYC

Nesh NYC's line of urban-chic yoga wear has you covered from Savasana to brunch. The soft palette of neutral offerings is a nice palate cleanser from the printed, colorful offerings of other brands, helping you get into relaxation mode.

The Weekender Top, $125, is everything we want out of a cover up: the blend of French terry, organic cotton, modal and lycra is super cozy, while the oversized, slinky silhouette is ultra-flattering.
